Natural volcanic lava rock is perfectly suited to gas fire pits, capturing and radiating heat outwards while providing a decorative look.
All our free-standing gas fire pits and gas fire pit burner kits come with enough lava rock to cover the burner. Single burner kits and all free-standing gas fire pits include 2 x 5kg bags. Our extra long, twin rectangle burner kits come with 4 x 5kg bags.
For some build projects, the internal dimensions of the fire pit structure may be larger than the burner itself, and more lava rock may be desired.
Lava rock is a natural product, and size can vary. The odd large piece can be broken using a hammer to create a more uniform appearance.
Lava Rock Features
- Heat-resistant volcanic rock retains and radiates heat
- Natural product : Colour varies – grey, dark grey, brown, reddish grey
- Provides a decorative look
- Lightweight and porous for even heat distribution
- Withstands the elements – does not dissolve or degrade over time
- 5kg bag roughly covers an area of 1,800 cm2
- Washed and bagged at source
How To Place
- Bags of lava rock contain lava rock dust
- Do not pour directly from bag onto burner
- Pour into a bucket first, then place rocks onto burner by hand
- Lava rock should be placed one layer deep across the burner
- Avoid placing lava rock on top of the pilot cage
Lava rock is porous and holds moisture. If the burner is lit while the lava rock is wet, the moisture inside can quickly turn to steam and occasionally cause the lava rock to pop.
Can be washed: Remove from burner, scrub in soapy water, and leave to dry.
Our burner has been tested and CE approved safe for use only with lava rock. Do not replace the lava rock with anything else as this could cause the burner to stop working.
